For shops that take cards
Know exactly what taking cards costs you, and stop paying the fees you never agreed to.
Upload last month's processing statement. A few minutes later you have your real rate in one number and every line explained in plain English, so you know which fees are fixed, which are your processor's, and which to question.
One PDF. No bank or processor login. Your statement is deleted right after the scan. The result keeps the numbers, not the PDF.
Before
The statement shows up: pages of codes, a discount line, an assessment line, a few fees with names you have never seen, and a total you cannot check. You pay it. Next month it is a little higher, and you are not sure why.
After
You know your effective rate (everything you paid in fees divided by what you took in on cards). You can see which lines go to Visa and Mastercard (the same for every merchant), which go to your processor (where the room to negotiate is), and which look like add-on fees. For the ones you want gone, you have a letter ready to send.
How you get there
- 1
You use the statement you already get.
Download last month's PDF from your processor's portal. Square, Stripe, Clover/Fiserv, Heartland, and Worldpay are read first. Other processors are read on a best-effort basis.
- 2
You get one honest number.
Total fees divided by total card sales, so you can compare month to month and against what you were quoted.
- 3
You see every line in plain English.
Each fee is tagged: card network cost (interchange and assessments), processor markup, or an add-on fee to question (for example a monthly PCI non-compliance or statement fee). Every finding points to the line on your statement so you can check it yourself.
- 4
You know what to say.
The full report ($39) adds removal and reprice letters written around your statement, ready for you to send to your processor.
- 5
You stop being surprised.
Watch ($19/month) re-checks each new statement you upload or forward by email, and emails you when a rate or fee changes. The PDF is still deleted. The numbers stay so the months can be compared.
You stop guessing.
One number you can track instead of a pile of codes.
You walk into the processor conversation prepared.
You know which fees are negotiable and you have the letter.
You catch the slow creep.
A rate that ticks up mid-contract shows up the month it happens, not two years later.
You keep control.
Nothing is sent to your processor unless you send it.
The honest limits
- FeeXray does not sell card processing, does not switch you, and never passes your statement to a processor or sales agent. No processor affiliation.
- It is not financial or legal advice. The letters are templates you review and send yourself.
- It can misread a line on an unusual statement. Every finding names the line it came from so you can check it.
- If you are on simple flat-rate pricing, the answer may be that your rate is what you were quoted. That is a useful answer too, and it stays free.
- US statements only for now.
Your data
- Your statement is used only to produce your result.
- It is deleted right after processing. The result page keeps the numbers, not the PDF.
- If you turn on Watch, the PDF is still deleted. The extracted numbers stay so each month can be compared. You can delete them any time, including by deleting your account.
- Processor statements show merchant IDs, not full card numbers. FeeXray does not ask for or store card numbers. A file that looks like it contains a full card number is rejected and not saved.
- Never sold, never shared with processors, ISOs, or sales agents.
FAQ
Which statements work?
Monthly merchant statements as PDFs. Square, Stripe, Clover/Fiserv, Heartland, and Worldpay first. Others on a best-effort basis.
What is an effective rate?
Everything you paid in processing fees in a month divided by everything you took in on cards that month. The US Chamber of Commerce walks through the same math. How to calculate credit card processing fees
What is a good rate?
It depends on your card mix, your average sale, and whether cards are present. The useful comparisons are against your own past months and against the rate you were quoted. FeeXray shows both when you upload more than one month, and when you enter the rate you were quoted.
Will my processor know I ran this?
No. Nothing goes to your processor unless you send a letter yourself.
Do you sell processing or get paid by processors?
No. FeeXray is not affiliated with a processor, an ISO, or a sales agent, and is not paid by any of them.
Can my bookkeeper run it for me?
Yes, with your permission. A bookkeeper account includes 3 free full reports. After that, reports are $39.
What if the scan says I am fine?
Then you know, and it cost nothing. If a paid report flags nothing to question, it is refunded in full. Watch can keep checking each month.
Who is behind this?
FeeXray is operated by Adepoco. Ross Shaw runs it. Reply to any email and Ross answers it himself.
